PC Health Check

If you've noticed that your computer is becoming sluggish now it's not quite sparkly and new anymore, a Severn IT Services health check may be just what it needs. We understand that there may be many reasons why your desktop or laptop is starting to slow down, that's why our health checks are comprehensive.

What does it include?
Our health checks are comprehensive to ensure that we get your computer running as safely and as reliably as possible. Below are some of the main tasks that we undertake as part of our standard health check.

Removal of Unused Applications
We'll go through the installed applications on your computer with you, to decide if you still need all of them installed. Moreover, we'll ensure that each application you choose to have removed is uninstalled completely - as standard application uninstallers can sometimes leave traces of some packages behind.

This frees up valuable disk space, giving you more room to store your photo's, music and documents. This also gives your computer more "breathing room" and can see some performance gains if your hard disk was previously low on disk space.

...and those pesky start-up applications.
You will probably have noticed that, after you log on to your computer, a number of programs start-up automatically and hide themselves over in the bottom right of the screen by the clock. Now, that's fine if you make use of these applications frequently, but those which you hardly use can be prevented from starting up.

This reduces the pressure on your computer just after you log on and means that you should notice a nice reduction in the time it takes you to log on and a nice performance increase in the time shortly after you've reached your desktop.

Virus, Spyware and Adware Scan
These terms are banded around pretty much all the time, but here we're generally referring to all the computer nasties that can have security and performance implications for you and your PC. We'll scan for, and remove any minor infections* that we find to hopefully get your system back to its past performance.

*If we find a major virus infection, by which we mean one that has a serious impact on your computers performance, we'll let you know and may escalate your health check to a repair callout - you'll be advised of any additional charges.

Lovely Little Updates
Updates are an important part of keeping your computer secure and stable. We'll make sure that the latest Windows updates, drivers (the helpful little files that let your computer control things like CD drives, graphics cards and so on) and other applications updates, such as your anti-virus are all installed and working.

Recommendations
Once we've performed our health check, if you'd like us to let you know of any hardware upgrades you could make to boost your computers performance we can do. We're happy to help you get the most out of your machine. We'll even leave you with a handy list of things to do to keep your computer in tip-top shape.

How much does it cost?
For each PC, the health check is priced at £30.00. If, for some strange reason, we think that it will cost you more than £30.00 we'll let you know before we get to work. Give us a call and we'll arrange a convenient time for a technician to pop round.
